Shot peening is a process that uses high-speed shot peening to impact the workpiece surface to improve part of the mechanical properties and change the surface state. Shot peening is used to improve mechanical strength, wear resistance, fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance of parts. It can also be used for surface extinction, peeling and eliminating residual stress of casting, forging and welding parts.
Characteristics of parts strengthened by shot peening
The magnitude of residual compressive stress on the sprayed surface and the depth of the compressive stress layer depend on the properties of the sprayed material and shot peening strength. The higher the strength and hardness of the material, the greater the compressive stress, the shallower the depth of the compressive stress layer, the higher the shot peening strength, the greater the depth of the compressive stress layer.
Microstructure changes of sprayed surface materials
The sprayed surface becomes rough. The roughness of the shot-impacted surface increases with the increase of shot-peening strength, the decrease of surface hardness and the decrease of projectile size. The metal on the sprayed surface is extruded to form tiny metal peaks, so the size increases.
Application scope of shot peening
Shot peening can prevent the bending fatigue of automobile parts; shot peening can improve the bending fatigue properties of tooth profile root; shot peening can improve the fatigue resistance and safe service life of crankshaft; shot peening can increase the strength and stiffness of connecting rod; strong shot peening process can improve the bending fatigue strength and contact fatigue strength of gear teeth. Degree is an important way to improve the anti-occlusion ability of gears and the service life of gears. Surface shot peening is an effective surface strengthening technology to improve the anti-fatigue fracture stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement fracture of fasteners. After shot peening, the reliability and durability of the workpiece can be improved obviously. Surface shot peening can improve the fatigue properties (including stress corrosion properties) by changing the structure of the material and improve the quality of fasteners.
